Chicago - What a Town!!

Today we met our Chicago Greeter, Wally and he showed us around this beautiful city.  It reminded us very much of Adelaide with its parks, culture and grid like set out.  The entire city burnt down in 1871  - except for the water tower building - so when it came to rebuilding, architects from all over the world came in and built buildings that are amazing and the city was built up again with lessons learnt from the past so it is a really functional city.  Apparently it has undergone another major transformation in the last twenty years.  We were really surprised by how beautiful it is and the people are really friendly.  We had full on conversations with people on buses and walking down the street.  Very unusual for America.  Wally took us to see were Oprah does her show and a group of people were coming out.  They had just been to a taping of the show and were so thrilled to have done it.  We looked around the Oprah Shop and had our photo taken outside Harpo Studios.  Wally said he had never met anyone who had been to a taping of the show so it was a first for him too.  We left Wally and caught the bus back into The City and went 96 floors up the John Hancock Building.  OMG it was swaying!!  We have been up many towers but that is the highest by far.  The Sears Tower has a glass floor jutting out from the building but we didn't do that.  We wish we had more time here but tomorrow we fly to New York.  We have been staying at The Palmer House Hilton - very nice.

Goodbye Disney - Hello Chicago

Had a great time in Disneyland and California Park.  Peter lined up with me for an hour so I could ride on Dumbo - it was pretty lame but you had to do it Oh, and the Merry Go Round.  We also did the one where you are in round thing and go hurtling down a river and over a huge falls - yay!  Last night we watched a show called Colour of Life which was a water show featuring alot of the disney movies right back to the Sorcerers Apprentice.  They had these massive water spouts all synchronised to music and then they projected images onto the water.  The music was amazing and when they did a bit of Nemo all these bubbles appeared througout the crowd.  The ground vibrated to the music and they did the stampede from Lion King and it was awesome. Today we are flying to Chicago. Jean is in our time zone and doing San Francisco, we meet up with her and Heather on Thursday in New York.  Love to all xxx

A Day in "The happiest Place on Earth"

We had a great day in Disneyland it really is a happy place - and very clean. We went on rides and watched movies about Disney and Abraham Lincoln and looked at all the shops and people watched. We went on the log ride and I can fully understand why Brendan looked the way he looked in his photo. If the guy in front of me hadn't been so big and taken up the whole photo you would have seen a similar look on my face! It was hilarious and we would have got back on but there were too many other things to do :) We were there for 10 hours! Today we are going to California Park.

Finally - we are here

It was a long journey but we made it in one piece. The flight was excellent aboard the new A380 - what a machine! It's huge! The food was excellent. I should know - Peter slept through the night and I ate my way through. I watched three movies a whole series of a great comedy sitcom called My Family which had me laughing out loud (which, by the way didn't wake Peter) and several documentaries. We arrived in LA and got through relatively quickly and was whisked away to Anaheim along 12 lane highways that had more roads above and below us. We saw an accident but what was surprising was that we ONLY saw one. We arrived at The Anabella and checked in and when we got to our room it was 22 hours since we had got up in Adelaide! Needless to say I went straight to bed and slept for an hour before showering and venturing out to have a look around. We are within walking distance of Disneyland and California Park. We walked around the streets - it is Soooo hot here! We stopped and had a sandwich which came with the obligitory pickled gerkin and we were asked if we wanted mashed potatoes with our sandwiches. We also fancied ice cream so ordered one scoop with hot caramel on top. Well! One scoop is like one tub and then they covered the whole lot with cream 2 inches thick. I did have a nice cup of tea though although I had to ask for milk because they only brought me lemon and honey. We are having an early night and then up early to play at Disneyland. I have no photos to post - yes I can hear you all saying how is that Peter hasn't taken 500 photos by now, but it's true. We will no doubt have some by tomorrow.
